A little treat awaits priests in the final chapter of the campaign of World of Warcraft: The War Within. Because they receive a special dialogue.
To be strictly accurate, a large part of the plot of the current WoW expansion “The War Within” goes back to the priests using the dagger Xal’atath in the Legion expansion, enabling them to accomplish certain things. Xal’atath has not forgotten this, and in the past, she had special spells in store for the priest. This is also the case in the final step of the campaign of The War Within.
Particularly cool: The dialogue takes into account several decisions you have made in World of Warcraft.
What decisions are those? The various spells of Xal’atath depend on two decisions:
- Have you completed the artifact questline for Xal’atath in Legion or not?
- Did you cleanse the “Gift of N’Zoth” in Battle for Azeroth or keep “the Eye”?
The Gift of N’Zoth was a buff in Battle for Azeroth that was widely discussed at the time. Player characters had the option to remove this gift – or to keep it. Who would have thought that this decision would still have consequences many years later?
All special spells from Xal’atath in the campaign finale of The War Within
This results in four different combinations that Xal’atath acknowledges with various spells. Two of these spells are accessible to all characters, while priests have access to two more.
If you did not complete the dagger quest and kept the eye (possible for all characters):
I told you that you are destined for greatness. Rejoice, for you have supported the end of all things.
If you did not complete the dagger quest and cleansed the eye (possible for all characters):
Your world is dying. Breathe deeply and accept that you have brought about the end.
If you completed the dagger quest and cleansed the eye (only priests):
After we have shared so much, you simply cast me aside. I will savor the taste of your madness. Just let go.
The most interesting spell occurs when you have completed the artifact questline and have not cleansed the Eye of N’Zoth. Because in that case, it seems as if Xal’atath sees the priest as an ally – or rather as a tool she has perfectly shaped. For she says:
Yes, bring your ‘allies’ to me, my blade. Drive them to the edge! For you have become the weapon I now wield.
Of course, it is left to one’s interpretation whether one truly sees oneself on the side of Xal’atath or considers oneself a tool of her will. But it is nice to see that Blizzard and the story writers have incorporated these past decisions.
When do you hear these words? In the final chapter of the story campaign, just before you set out for the last confrontation of the current story. This chapter has only been available since September 4, 2024. After that, not only will you have completed the campaign, but you will also unlock the Earthen as an allied race if you meet all other requirements.
