There are many rare mounts in World of Warcraft. Some are farmed not just for a few days or weeks, but for years. A player has tried for 17 years to obtain the coveted mount from the Headless Horseman. Now he finally got it and is extremely happy. But then comes the sobering reaction from other players: Ha, that’s not what you wanted…

Which mount is it about? We are talking about “The Reins of the Rider.” This is a mount that has existed since patch 2.4.3 in World of Warcraft – for almost 17 years. Back then, it was a very rare drop from the “Headless Horseman”; today it comes from the “Loot-filled Pumpkin,” which is obtained by defeating the Rider for the first time daily. In both cases, however, the drop chance is extremely low.

Joy over the wrong mount
The community reacts amusedly, showing empathy: However, the joy lasts only a short while, as the community immediately has a few remarks:

The catch is: He didn’t actually get the right mount, but a new one that has only been available recently.
What mount is this instead? The “The Headless Horseman’s Ghoulish Charger” is a mount that was only added in 2025 during the Hallow’s End. It is a completely new mount and also has a much higher drop chance. Anyone who completes the event every day with at least one character should be quite certain to have this mount in their collection by the end of the Hallow’s End.
The new mount is essentially a HD variant of the old mount. Even though the player did not get exactly the mount of his dreams, visually it is quite close. And there are still a few days left to fulfill the actual heart’s desire.
