Your World of Warcraft has been stuttering and lagging since Patch 10.0? A simple trick fixes this annoying bug and brings back the enjoyment of the game.
The Patch 10.0 of World of Warcraft is live and has brought many changes to Azeroth. In addition to the new interface and the fresh talent system, there are also some changes in the background. Some of these currently cause WoW to stutter suspiciously and result in frequent “mini-freezes”. We will explain what is causing this and how you can fix it.
Where do the stutters come from? With Patch 10.0, Blizzard apparently made a change to how WoW calculates the shaders. Currently, they are stored on some PCs’ hard drives – rather than, as is usual, in the PC’s RAM or the graphics card. This leads to the small “mini-lags” or stutters, as WoW demands far too much from most hard drives.
How to fix the stuttering in Patch 10: To resolve this issue, a single command in the chat is sufficient. Simply open your chat window and enter the following line:
/console GxAllowCachelessShaderMode 0
Then, you either restart the game completely or enter this command:
/console gxRestart
When you log back into WoW, the game should run significantly smoother than before.
You only need to enter this once and not at every game start. After you have made this setting for the first time, the problem should have disappeared and World of Warcraft should run significantly smoother again.
It is expected that Blizzard will fix this error themselves in the coming weeks, as currently many players are suffering from this issue.
What can you do if it still stutters? In general, it is advisable to first disable the interface addons. Especially addons that consume a lot of resources – such as “All the Things” – can drastically limit performance. Many addons have also not yet been updated and therefore cause error messages that lead to problems.
If it still stutters without addons, try lowering the graphics settings a bit, as with Patch 10.0 the maximum view distance has been increased – if it is set to maximum on your end, it could overwhelm your PC now.
