In the coming year, the new expansion “The War Within” for World of Warcraft will be released. To ensure a smooth process, Blizzard is testing the addon on initial test servers. There are also news regarding other major MMORPGs. MeinMMO summarizes the most important news of this week for you.
The highlights of the week:
- Players have formed a community in EVE Online, where an AI takes on many decisions. It helps, for example, in sorting applicants and creating the company logo. However, for important decisions, the human members have the final word.
- Blizzard is discontinuing its authenticator. The app is set to disappear on January 5. Until then, players have time to migrate to the “Battle.net Mobile App.” If the migration does not occur, accounts could lose security, or some exclusive items might be lost.
What else has happened? On an initial internal server, Blizzard’s development team is currently testing the expansion “The War Within” for World of Warcraft. Data miners have discovered, that one of the internal WoW realms has been updated to version 11.0.
It will probably take 2-3 months for the alpha to start on the servers. The beta is expected in spring 2024. It will likely take a few more months until the release.

This is what happened with the big MMORPGs:
- In Lost Ark, it’s a frosty affair: As reported last week, a major update for the MMORPG has been released this week. Players can now explore the wonderland Voldis.
- The Elder Scrolls Online turns 10! Next year, the MMORPG will celebrate its special anniversary for a year. There will be local events worldwide, including in Germany. Fans can expect cosplay competitions, new gameplay, panels, and more (via TESO).
- New World launches Season 4, the Frost Season. In this season, we need to help the Silver Ravens find a knight of the round table. The release had to be delayed by one day due to technical issues. However, fans can now dive into the wintry world (via MMORPG.com)
This is what happened with the small MMORPGs:
- Tower of Fantasy kicks off the winter celebrations. An update 3.5 is set to be released on December 21, 2023, which includes a new character named Yan Miao. Next year, there will be a crossover with Evangelion (via MassivelyOP).
- Winter festivities are also starting in RuneScape. Lumbridge is suddenly covered in white snow, and players can meet Jack Frost. All players participating in the event can receive cosmetic goodies as rewards (via RuneScape).
- ArchAge also receives its winter update, but it is not quite as festive. The update includes a new boss that players will have to deal with. The development team has also added some PvE options (via ArchAge).

- Book of Travels is a small MMORPG or TMORPG that struggles with a low player count. Nevertheless, the development team is taking the time to completely overhaul the combat system. Players can experience it in Early Access.
- Palia is still in Early Access but has now been released on Nintendo Switch. The cozy MMO offers crossplay between PC and Switch players as well as cross-progression (via Palia).
- The sandbox MMORPG Pax Dei is ending its alpha phase. Thanks to the test phase, the developers have noticed new bugs, such as buildings disappearing. The team thanks all players and is pleased to have gained new insights from the test. The next test is scheduled for the first quarter of 2024 (via MMORPG.com).
