For nearly a week, the faction assaults have been present in World of Warcraft. We are drawing our first conclusions about the new feature.
The Patch 8.1 Tides of Vengeance of World of Warcraft was deployed to the live servers about a week ago, and most players have since been able to get a feel for the new or revised old features. One feature that the community found particularly appealing was: the faction assaults.
In fact, the feature is just the invasions from Legion in a new guise – at least on the surface. In detail, several things have been changed to make the faction assaults a great playground for PvP enthusiasts in the open world.
Honestly, it has been several months since I experienced so many PvP battles in the open world. Especially on an RP server, this is usually a “peaceful coexistence” – but not with the faction assaults. Finally, there are again smaller and larger battles in Drustvar, Vol’dun, and all the other zones of Battle for Azeroth.
The quests differ for both factions but take place in close proximity. For example, Alliance players may need to heal their soldiers and rescue the wounded, while Horde players should eliminate these Alliance soldiers once and for all. Both sides fight for the same goals.
There are many reasons for the war mode. Currently, at least on my server, there is a hefty bonus of 30% on earned resources, which can add up to a nice amount over several quests. In the end, there’s also a special reward based on item level, up to level 370. Additionally, there is a chunk of reputation with the 7th Legion or the Covenant, which is useful for the Paragon rewards.
Conquest as an additional incentive: Personally, I also find it very appealing that the quests of the faction assault grant additional conquest points in war mode. This makes it much easier to reach the weekly cap and snag an extra reward chest.
Players are delighted: Especially on Reddit, players are positively surprised by the faction assaults. Where it was previously suspected that this would be a boring endeavor, positive reports are now piling up. Some even feel reminded of “Tarren Mill against Southshore” and are finally having fun PvP experiences in the open world again.

And for those who don’t want to deal with all these conflicts, there is a simple solution: You simply turn off the war mode. However, the faction assaults are no more than a few world quests, but that should please some players.
What do you think of the faction assaults in World of Warcraft? Do you like these “new” invasions? Are you having fun with them – in PvP or PvE? Let us know in the comments.
