Once control a raid boss in World of Warcraft – with this little Easter egg, it is possible!
In a game as large as World of Warcraft, the developers have built in a plethora of smaller and larger Easter eggs over more than a decade. These hidden references and funny scenes range from the names of certain NPCs to tributes to former employees to memes that find their way into the game world.
A new Easter egg from the Tomb of Sargeras even impacts the gameplay of the game and provides plenty of entertainment. In the current raid “Tomb of Sargeras”, there are several “Orcish runes” scattered throughout the encounter.
When Gul’dan mows down the raid
If a player manages to click on the runes, the character is transformed into an echo of Gul’dan, who died long ago in the tomb. While the character retains its health points, it gains a set of new abilities! With plenty of fel magic, Gul’dan can then toss around. But who should he attack? His own raid members! They are actually hostile and can be beaten up at will.
Some of the locations have been summarized by wowhead in this video:
Only one player can click on the runes – it’s not possible for other raid members. Who it is is decided anew each week.
However, the runes are inactive during the LFR difficulty. Apparently, they didn’t want to further strain the very low tolerance threshold of these groups.
Whether this may still serve a secret purpose is something the community is trying to figure out. Currently, it just looks like a fun gimmick, with which you can give your friends a solid fel fireball to the face.
Have you already become a victim or perpetrator of this Easter egg? And what do you think about it? A cool thing or rather annoying when someone thinks it is funny again?
Who are actually Turalyon and Alleria in WoW? We explain it to you in this post!
