Also in WoW Dragonflight there is again a “Torghast” – at least something like it. Because the mechanics are similar, but without the obligation.
If you look back at the last WoW expansion “Shadowlands”, few features will likely be remembered positively. Especially Torghast divided the community quite a bit. Some players couldn’t relate to the tower and its mandatory program at all. Another part enjoyed the absurdly strong combinations of Anima powers and the fulfillment of the power fantasy, in search of transmog, mounts, and toys.
However, most agreed that Torghast as “mandatory” was not fun. Being forced to visit the tower repeatedly quickly made one feel “burned out”.
In Dragonflight, there is now also a “Torghast” – at least in its basic principles. However, there is also possible PvP and it is optional.
What is the Cobalt Assembly? The Cobalt Assembly is a place and also a faction of blue dragons in the Azure Span. You will find them north of Camp Antonidas – the ruins are part of the relevant area.
The catch in this area: Most enemies here are elite, and all foes have a chance to leave behind “Wild Arcana”. These are small, crackling orbs that you can click on.
Similar to Torghast, you then receive a selection of “Arcana powers” with which you can improve your character. These are enhancements like more mastery, more health points, and critical hit chance, but also gameplay abilities like unleashing an Arcane Explosion when you jump. However, there are also “dangerous” powers with side effects: Opening your map (M) can create a strong explosion. However, if it doesn’t hit at least 4 enemies, you die immediately.
All Arcana basically last only 5 minutes. Most are stackable, and you almost always have the option to refresh the duration of all active Arcana. As long as you kill enemies in the Cobalt Assembly, you will become stronger and stronger.
In war mode, it even works with PvP. It can happen that a grinning orc with 2 million health points and one-hit kills takes you out. This can be annoying – but just as easily you could be that “super monster”. And the war mode is optional, after all.
However, an important second type of loot is energy for the Cobalt Assembly. It’s basically the “reputation” you collect. Because depending on how much energy the assembly has, the better rewards you can buy. This ranges from new decorations for your dragon to several crafting recipes and even quite solid blue equipment.
However: Unlike “Torghast”, the Cobalt Assembly is completely optional. Although there are a few nice reputation rewards, like a pretty decent ring for starters – it is not a requirement to really get good items.
Thus, the Cobalt Assembly has a similar significance as all the other factions in Dragonflight. They are “nice to have”, but ultimately not really important. If you want to earn the rewards, you can pick up a few nice things here – but there are good and even better alternatives everywhere if you don’t feel like it.
Overpowered can also farm alone
Interestingly, you can largely complete the grind alone, and a group is only needed as “starter help” to gather enough wild Arcana. Once you are powerful enough, you can leave the group and continue solo.
This is especially rewarding when there is less activity on your realm. Because depending on the population of the realm, the Cobalt Assembly can be quite crowded, so you hardly get enemies for your own group and the foes are “grey” to you. Then it might be worthwhile to switch to your own realm.
On the other hand, if you are playing on one of the fuller realms, it is worth switching to one of the quieter realms.
How long does the grind take? If you just want to “get through” the Cobalt Assembly to reach the maximum reputation bar, you don’t need to plan that much time. With a group, the entire grind may take about 4-8 hours, and that should be significantly less than with all other reputation factions of the expansion. Since most of the rewards here are purely cosmetic, you can also take your time with the grind and spread it over several weeks – or you can grit your teeth and do it all in an extended farming session.
Have you already farmed in the Cobalt Assembly? Or have you so far avoided the place?
If you want to farm something else, then grab this cute flying mount.
