Corruption items in World of Warcraft are a double-edged sword. But how much fun they can be in PvP is impressively showcased by a Death Knight.
With Patch 8.3 Visions of N’Zoth, World of Warcraft introduced the corruption system. Items have a chance to become corrupted. This grants not only powerful passive effects but also increases the corruption of the character, who then has to deal with negative consequences.
Especially in PvP, these effects can be so devastating that battles become a real gamble.
What’s there to see? YouTuber and Death Knight Stratovarius has released a small PvP video – in the “classic” style of old WoW PvP videos. So motivational music and, of course, only the highlights of the kills are shown in the clip.
The special thing about it is that he wears three items with extremely high corruption. He plays in the “Blood” specialization, which also gives him solid self-healing and a lot of health points. The corrupted items include:
- A ring with 75 corruption and “Infinite Stars”
- A pair of shoes with 50 corruption and “Infinite Stars”
- A weapon with 50 corruption and “Infinite Stars”
What do these effects do? “Infinite Stars” gives the Death Knight a chance to cause a star to rain down on the target with attacks, dealing high damage. At the same time, the damage of the next star is drastically increased.
This leads to Stratovarius landing hits in PvP that occasionally range from 100,000 to 300,000 damage. Most classes, however, only have between 300,000 and 500,000 health points (Tanks significantly more), which is why enemies simply melt away.
What the video doesn’t show: However, what isn’t seen in the video are the countless times the Death Knight simply gets “smashed”. Because the high corruption also ensures that he takes an extreme amount of damage. Sometimes even a “thing from the beyond” appears, approaching the Death Knight and then dealing high damage. At 180 corruption, the creature is so fast that it reaches the Death Knight almost instantly, resulting in death.
Stratovarius also acknowledges this on Reddit and takes it with humor. Half of his matches end very quickly because he dies quickly himself. That’s why he stays at a low rating of 1300 and does not rank up. However, the fun with these effects is absolutely worth it.
The question now remains whether PvP should be decided by such powerful factors, which are strongly tied to chance. Because whether the corruption takes the Death Knight down or simply annihilates his victim is ultimately dependent on randomness.
However, these extreme effects are certainly fun to watch.
