In WoW Classic the new raid Zul’Gurub has only recently opened and has already been defeated. One of the fights offers a special challenge and has officially been undefeated until now.
Which boss is it? It is the final boss in the new raid, the Blood God Hakkar. Hakkar is a Loa worshipped by the Gurubashi trolls and waits for the players at his altar in Zul’Gurub as the last boss.
What makes him so difficult? The boss fight with Hakkar itself is actually not that hard; he was already killed several times during Vanilla. However, he has a special mechanic that makes him more challenging if one wishes – a kind of “hard mode” and the first of its kind.
In Zul’Gurub there are five priests who act as additional bosses. The plan is to defeat them before the group engages Hakkar. If left alive, they grant the boss various additional abilities:
- High area damage, silencing players for 8 seconds
- the dangerous Blood Plague also deals about 800 damage to the raid
- Stun the player with the highest threat for 6 seconds – resets threat
- 150% increased attack speed
- makes the player with the highest threat incapacitated for 2 seconds – resets threat
Since April 15 at 11:59 PM the fourth phase has started on WoW’s Classic servers and with it, Zul’Gurub is accessible for the first time in the updated version. Zul’Gurub first appeared on September 13, 2005, with Patch 1.7 for World of Warcraft.
Who accomplished this? The guild “BlaDE of KiLL” made their way to Hakkar shortly after the raid opened and killed him in just one minute and 21 seconds. Here is the video; the fight begins at minute 4:37:
Even the WoW director has failed
What’s behind this? The current game director of World of Warcraft, Ion Hazzikostas, also attempted to kill Hakkar during Vanilla in this composition. At that time, he was the guild leader of the guild “Elitist Jerks”.
His guild attempted the kill a few hours before the release of the first expansion “The Burning Crusade” with the then-best gear from the raid Naxxramas. However, they fell short with 2% health left on the boss.
How did the guild manage to achieve this? “BlaDE of KiLL” armed themselves to the teeth and buffed themselves with every possible buff.
So several warriors wielded the legendary weapon Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker, which they owe in part to outrageous loot luck in Molten Core.
Numerous players obtained the rank “Grand Marshal,” the highest PvP rank of the Alliance, which even the toughest streamers have struggled to achieve. They also worked with special buffs and debuffs to weaken Hakkar’s armor and make his attacks even stronger, causing him to take more damage in return.
Moreover, they only had 90 seconds before one of the boss’s spells would wipe them out and heal him. The race was an “all or nothing” situation that ultimately worked out.
Hakkar himself receives a new character model in the new WoW expansion Shadowlands and will face the players again. Are you looking forward to being able to take him down again?
