With a hotfix, Blizzard is trying to slow down the guild Method in World of Warcraft. They apparently used a strategy that the developers didn’t like.
Update: The hotfix has been reverted. Blizzard has reconsidered its plans.
Original report: The race for the “World First Kill” of Lady Jaina Proudmoore in World of Warcraft is still in full swing. Almost 30 guilds are currently involved, trying to take down Jaina on the Mythic difficulty. However, one strategy seems to not sit well with the developers, which is why a hotfix has been implemented. Ironically, the favorites Method are being slowed down by this.
What has Method tried? Currently, Method repeatedly manages to reach the final phase of the fight. Their strategy so far involves ignoring all additional enemies, such as the water elementals, as much as possible and focusing maximum damage on Jaina.
The water elementals are only occasionally interrupted before they can cast their Frost Nova. Thus, it was a race against time for Method to see if they could kill Jaina quickly enough.
This is how Blizzard addresses the “problem”: The developers have now implemented a hotfix that has altered the water elementals. From now on, it is no longer possible to fully prevent the Frost Nova of the water elementals.
If players want to avoid the damage, they must kill the elementals in a timely manner, as they will cast their Frost Nova at 100 energy. Previously, this only happened if they failed to interrupt a water bolt. Ignoring the adds now leads to a quick death.
Method will now have to adjust their method and take care of the water elementals. Other guilds hadn’t considered this methodology until now.
What do you think of this adjustment “mid-race”? Is it good that a change happens before a guild gets the kill? Or is it unfair to bring about a change specifically to trick a guild’s strategy?
