For the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft, there is a lot happening – even a whole patch. The probably best dungeon in the game is returning as a raid.
World of Warcraft has received its 10th expansion this year, is celebrating its 20th anniversary, and the entire Warcraft franchise is turning 30 years old. Those are several occasions to celebrate these anniversaries extensively in the game. The developers have now revealed what they have planned for the huge event – and it really is a lot.
The highlight: The probably most famous and at the same time notorious dungeon from the vanilla era of WoW is returning and will be a raid.
What kind of raid is this? For the 20th anniversary celebrations of World of Warcraft, the developers have decided to bring back the old dungeon “Blackrock Depths” and turn it into a fully-fledged, temporary raid.
The Blackrock Depths are one of the most well-known dungeons of World of Warcraft. The depths were so vast that groups would often get lost there, and it was possible to spend an entire evening in the dungeon without seeing everything. No wonder, as the dungeon in its original version had more than 20 bosses and the size of a whole city.
What kind of raid will it be? Although many details are still unknown, the main points have already been revealed:
- The raid is designed for 10 to 15 characters.
- There will be LFR, Normal, and Heroic.
- The raid will feature 8 main bosses and 5 mini-bosses.
There will not be a mythic version of the raid. So one can assume that the whole experience will be a bit easier than a new, modern raid – but that is not surprising for an anniversary.
More details were revealed in the latest WoWCast:
What else is included in the anniversary? Besides the new raid, the developers have also announced a whole series of other events and rewards:
- All rewards from the old anniversary events are available.
- All Tier-2 sets have been re-released in HD. Classes that did not exist at the time will also receive a set.
- Chromie is repeating the opening of the gates of Ahn’Qiraj – with a twist. Bosses from the past will appear in Silithus, including Kel’Thuzad, Tichondrius, or Ossirian. Something always goes wrong when time magic is involved.
- The celebration now takes place in front of the Caverns of Time.
- There are numerous small competitions – such as a transmog competition or a contest to see who has the coolest mounts to show off.
- Additionally, there are riddle quests and some secrets.
- Classic dungeons as timewalking: Deadmines, Zul’Farrak, Blackrock Depths (2 wings), and Stratholme (2 wings). These dungeons will remain part of the timewalking rotation even after the event. Furthermore, timewalking is now available from level 10.
- Timewalking vendors will have many new rewards.
- And most importantly: Baby Felwargs as battle pets.
How long will the event last? This time, the duration of the event is not just 3 weeks – but the entire duration of the patch. Blizzard intends to keep the event running for “over 2 months”. This way, everyone should have enough time to earn all the rewards without neglecting the content of the 1st season of The War Within.
