With the current ID swap in World of Warcraft, Blizzard is implementing a change that means you will no longer be able to unlock powerful gear pieces for the weekly chest in a short amount of time.
What kind of trick is this? MyMMO demon Cortyn revealed to you some time ago how you can unlock three items with an item level of 616 for the weekly chest in just 30 minutes.
To do this, you simply need to visit the now noticeably weakened Depths endboss Zekvir eight times, which should take about three to five minutes per run. With its “?” difficulty, it meets the requirements to unlock item level 616 loot in the vault.

What change is Blizzard delivering? With the hotfixes for the upcoming ID swap on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, the WoW developers are implementing among other changes the following (via forums.blizzard.com):
- Visiting Zekvir’s cave will no longer count towards the progress for the Great Vault.
- A problem is also being fixed that allowed special world quests (Special Assignment World Quests) to contribute additional progress for the Great Vault.
The developers aim to remove the incentive to farm Zekvir for vault rewards. The second change also fixes a bug that could unintentionally contribute to additional vault progress.
How is the community reacting to the change? On Reddit, the hotfix is already being hotly debated.
- Odd-Stranger3671 writes (via Reddit): “I have never used Zekvir as a farm. Call me a beginner, but this is too difficult, not content for a normal casual player.”
- Cakalacky complains (via Reddit): “I don’t do raids, I have only mastered Normal, but I really enjoy the 616 item level gear from the vault, I am currently at item level 611. Aside from achievements, leveling up Brann, and this arbitrary season 1 progress that seems meaningless, I have no motivation to actually go into the Depths.”
- Crepuscertine says on Reddit: “I figured it would happen eventually. Nice while it lasted, I guess. The compromise for Zekvir runs was that you couldn’t get the increased rewards from normal depths or Bountifuls, but with the advantage of fast runs to get your vault slots.”
