A new talent of the artifact weapons is supposed to fix the problems in World of Warcraft in Patch 7.2. Will it work with 50 upgrade levels?
The artifact weapons from World of Warcraft: Legion remain the focal point of the current expansion. However, they are currently too powerful, as the differences between hardcore gamers and “casuals” are becoming larger. Especially the last 20 points in an artifact weapon make a strength difference of up to 20%. In Patch 7.2, they want to reduce these differences and have found a solution for it.
The previous end talent of the weapon will disappear as part of the quest line and unlock new artifact properties. Where previously only 3 ranks could be invested, now up to 4 upgrades can be made – in addition to a handful of new properties.
All weapons will, however, receive a new end talent with a total of 50 upgrade levels!
This talent grants the character a proc (a short-term buff that is triggered randomly) and comes with a temporary increase of the primary attribute. At the first level, you receive a solid 2,000 points of your main stat for 10 seconds; each additional level adds 200 points. With a fully upgraded artifact weapon, this results in an increase of 11,800 points.
Powerful effect with shorter duration = less difference?
As a result, the effect is still powerful, but only temporarily active and no longer a “must” for truly effective gameplay. At the same time, a proc allows attentive players to shine a little more.
Players who coordinate their major damage cooldowns with the proc will likely be rewarded with a better position on the damage meter. If one does not pay close attention, the buff remains a solid, temporary increase in damage.
The developers’ goal is to make artifact power still appear worthwhile without forcing players into an endless grind.
In the official forum, opinions are divided about this solution. While most agree that it reduces the “grind requirement,” many find a proc disruptive as it introduces another element of randomness into the fights.
With Patch 7.2, there were also thoughts about whether the legendary cap should be increased.
