In a limited-time event, you can currently obtain items from Wrath of the Lich King in World of Warcraft. The special thing about them: They correspond to the item level from The War Within and are therefore even stronger than much of what you can usually obtain.
What kind of item is it?
- The Wrathstone is a trinket from Ulduar.
- The item passively increases your critical strike rating and can be activated to significantly increase your strength or agility for 20 seconds (2-minute cooldown).
- For many classes, this item is either “Best in Slot” or at least very close – but significantly easier to obtain than the competition.
Where do I get the Wrathstone? You can loot the Wrathstone from the loot chest after defeating Kologarn in Ulduar. Currently, the weekly event “Timewalking: Wrath of the Lich King” is active, until and including Tuesday, October 15.
In the raid, you have a chance to get the item at item level 597 (1/6 in the Champion track). However, you should definitely accept the quest in old Dalaran where you need to kill Yogg-Saron beforehand.
As a reward, you will receive a chest containing loot at level 610 (1/6 in the Hero track) – and the Wrathstone is supposed to be among them, but it is rarer there than with Kologarn. Additionally, you have a chance in the chest for some of the rarest mounts in the game.
If fully upgraded, the item would be at level 626. The Wrathstone will be replaced for many classes only by trinkets from the mythic raid and is quite strong for:
- Frost Death Knights
- Feral Druids
- Hunters
- Demon Hunters
- Windwalker Monks
- Enhancement Shamans

Timewalking is time-limited, often providing really strong items
In addition to the Wrathstone, you can also obtain the Living Flame in Ulduar. This is the spellcaster’s counterpart and increases critical strike rating as well as intelligence. Unlike the Wrathstone, the Living Flame has a strong alternative in the Palace of the Nerub’ar: the Master Spy’s Net.
Which item is best for you can be quickly checked at Bloodmallet or Questionably Epic. Alternatively, you can simulate your gear through raidbots and often get more accurate results.
Items from old raids have consistently ranked among the best items in the game for many months. However, since timewalking events are always short and rarely repeat, many players are not very happy about this situation.
Because those who are unlucky and do not get a corresponding item often have to wait for months and cannot compete with other players of their class during this time. The next WotLK timewalking will take place on February 12, 2025. For this, you now at least have the opportunity in WoW to more easily obtain the new
best loot: WoW changes rewards in Mythic+, making dungeons easier.
