Finally dive into the World of Warcraft properly: A VR version makes it possible and allows fans to explore Azeroth in a whole new way.
After around 20 years, World of Warcraft is still the game of choice for some players. For many, it has become more than just a game; it has become a second home. How wonderful would it be to be able to dive into Azeroth “properly” and not just from a third-person perspective on the monitor, but as an experience in VR?
That’s exactly what some fans thought about 10 years ago – and now they have finally released the first fully playable version of “WoW VR”.
You can see the current patch of WoW here:
What exactly is this? With the VR mod from Flat2VR, you have the opportunity for the first time to truly dive into World of Warcraft as part of a VR experience. You will then walk through the game world in the form of your hero and experience the vast landscapes and major cities of Azeroth from a first-person perspective. A walk through the Elwynn Forest or the city of Stormwind suddenly feels significantly more impressive than just flying over the landscape with a dragon zoomed out.
How does it work? To experience WoW in virtual reality, you obviously need the appropriate hardware and a bit of patience, as the installation of such mods can be a little complicated.

What doesn’t work yet? Of course, there are still some issues. The interaction possibilities are mainly limited to the user interface. You have to click various abilities on the small interface a bit clumsily and then place area spells in the world, for example. This doesn’t yet feel quite right for a VR experience and certainly needs some work. Currently, it is more suitable for exploration rather than for actual combat – although it is possible.
There is also no separate body model – so if you look down, you won’t see your character’s legs. It is based on the “first-person” view that you can already have in WoW if you zoom in closely on your character.
Nevertheless, a visit to Azeroth in this way should be quite impressive for VR fans. The sheer size of World of Warcraft and its various inhabitants can probably only be properly appreciated from a first-person perspective. This is especially true when you are standing in front of a gigantic dragon and your own size is just that of a small toe of the monster.
Will you take a look at the VR version of WoW? Or would you rather wait for (definitely) a “Deep Dive” MMORPG to come out?
