Nefarian – The “Class Calls”
WoW veterans from the early days will remember the Blackwing Lair. In this raid, it was about outsmarting the black dragonflight and knocking Lord Victor Nefarius, better known as the black dragon Nefarian, off his throne in Blackrock.
The final battle was epic! First, an seemingly endless army of chromatic dragons had to be defeated as they poured into the battle room from two entrances. Only after enough of them were defeated did Nefarian himself appear in dragon form and prepare to land.
The special thing about Nefarian was that he had an ability known as “Class Calls.” Nefarian could call each class individually and then forced them to do something quite ridiculous – a powerful form of mind control.
Mages began turning their own teammates into animals, paladins bestowed their blessings on Nefarian, rogues were teleported in front of the boss and had to stay there – overall, it was very chaotic but quite funny.
Only the Class Call for hunters was really absurd. Their weapon durability was simply set to 0, preventing them from firing with bow or gun. The only protection against this was to drop their weapon in a brief time window of about 3 seconds and only re-equip it after the effect wore off. By the way, this is also the reason why you cannot swap weapons in combat but must change other gear.
Fun Fact: Blizzard even retroactively added Class Calls for the new classes – like Death Knights and Monks.
A nasty dog waits on the next page. Loot luck determined whether one could fight him!
