N’Zoth in WoW has finally been defeated. It only took 20 tanks to defeat him on mythic difficulty.
At the end of an expansion, things in World of Warcraft usually get a bit crazier. There are strange approaches to bosses and some systems go completely off the rails, which is why crazy records are possible. Now, the probably last “achievement” of this kind has been completed. N’Zoth has been defeated on the highest difficulty – only by tanks.
What happened? A raid group of 20 tanks managed to defeat N’Zoth on mythic difficulty. They had neither traditional damage dealers nor healers in the group and had to rely entirely on their tanking colleagues.
Unfortunately, there is no video of the kill, but the log data of the fight is available on Warcraft Logs. Perhaps a video will be added later.
High Corruption Makes It Possible
How did they do it? Essentially, the 20 tanks used the same strategy that was already employed in previous records of this kind. Most damage is dealt through the corruption effect “Twilight Devastation”. The amount of damage is determined by the maximum health points of the respective character. You can actually buy corruption effects directly from MOTHER.
These maximum health points are further increased by essences from the Heart of Azeroth. Especially “Strength of the Guardian” increases health points by 3% and is stackable – with 20 tanks, that means a boost of a whopping 60%. Therefore, players have health points that soar into the millions.
With the next expansion Shadowlands, such records will likely not be possible anymore – at least at the beginning.
Why did they not need healers? The self-healing of tanks is quite high in Battle for Azeroth. Since tanks take significantly less damage than other characters anyway, they could simply “pass around” the aggro of the boss while other players slowly healed themselves back up. Especially Azerite abilities help massively in this regard and provide solid self-healing, complemented by various abilities.
What do you think of this achievement? Cool and impressive? Or is it silly that something like this is even possible?
