The Free2Play MMO World of Tanks is releasing a special version of the M4 Sherman tank to coincide with the launch of “Fury”, a new tank movie starring Brad Pitt.
“Fury” is a new film that is set to be released in mid-October pretty much everywhere except Germany and South America. It will debut here at the beginning of 2015, on New Year’s Day even. In the film, a ragtag unit of tank operators attempts to lead a decisive strike against the enemies behind enemy lines in Nazi Germany. As a promotional partner for this film, Sony Online Pictures has appropriately chosen Wargaming, the creators of World of Tanks.
Wargaming plans to release a specially marked M4 Sherman in a bundle across all versions, including Xbox 360, PC, and iOS. The bundle is already available on PC and iOS. Xbox 360 fans will have to wait another week.
In a press release, both companies praise each other enthusiastically. Wargaming refers to the tank film as “the most realistic portrayal of tank combat in cinema to date.” Sony Pictures looks forward to reaching as many tank enthusiasts as possible and sees World of Tanks as the ideal digital extension of the film.
