Audiobook or an interactive game? World of Darkness is charting new paths.
Those who think back to World of Darkness surely experience a rollercoaster of emotions, especially in the realm of PC games. On one hand, there are popular games like Vampire: The Masquerade and on the other hand, discontinued projects, like the “World of Darkness” MMO.
Around Christmas, however, all fans of the dark universe can look forward to a gaming experience that doesn’t quite fit into the classic category of a “game.” Under the name “The Orpheus Device,” Earplay is launching an interactive story in which the “players” control their decisions using voice commands. The player thus becomes a part of the story and can influence its course.
From a story perspective, players interact with a Wraith from the Shadowlands – a creature not exactly known for its friendliness. This soul of a deceased person is sure to have many tales to tell… and will likely tempt the “player” into wrongful actions.
This type of “game” will be released in English, whether there will be a German version is still uncertain. The “Teaser Version” is set to come out “around Halloween,” with a full release expected in December.
Aside from that, WhiteWolf is also working with Paradox to develop PC games within the World of Darkness. An announcement is still pending here.

The world full of vampires, werewolves, and other creatures (that do not sparkle) has captivated me several times. A mix of audio play, audiobook, and decision-based story? I’m all for it. I want to converse with the Wraith. Preferably right now. What could be better during the cold season than a nice horror story?
