The Steam Summer Sale 2019 features a special event: the Grand Prix. In this event, you can win prizes through simple tasks and, with a bit of luck, even get free games. What those games are and how to get them, we reveal to you here.
How do I get free games? This year’s Summer Sale of Steam makes it relatively easy to grab free prizes. All you need to do is participate in the Grand Prix. The Grand Prix is a companion event to the Summer Sale 2019.
Every user who participates in the Grand Prix and whose team is in the top three has the chance to receive the top game on their wishlist for free daily. You should check if it is still up to date.
Update June 28: Valve has now revealed which wishlist game you will receive for free.
The number of winners is still unknown. It was only said that “random members” of the respective teams in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will receive their wishlist game.
What is the Grand Prix?
How to participate: If you want to join, just click on the large Grand Prix banner in the Steam client. You can then choose which team you want to join. The options are:
- Team Corgi
- Team Parakeet
- Team Rabbit
- Team Turtle
- Team Pig
The selection of the team is fixed for the entire event. Currently (as of June 26 at 5:45 PM), Team Corgi is leading by a large margin. However, the progress is reset every day, giving each team a new chance to take the lead daily. You can check the status on the Grand Prix website .
What tasks do you need to complete? To help your team win, you need to “boost” them. You get boosts through points you earn with tasks in various games.
Boost points have a limit of 100 at a time. This limit is increased daily by 100 for participation and by an additional 121 for every euro you spend in the sale. Additionally, you can slow down other teams through “attacks”.
Currently, there are tasks for the new action game Mordhau, Team Fortress 2, Path of Exile, and others. Steam divides the overview into games you own and games you do not have yet.
The tasks seem quite easy so far and appear to be something that can be completed while playing.
What rewards are there? When you boost your team, you receive tokens. You can spend these in the “Pit Stop” to secure additional rewards, such as:
- a discount of €5 on your next purchase
- A Grand Prix badge
- Profile backgrounds
- Emotes
