Borderlands 4 has a peculiar charm that even shooter noob and MeinMMO editor Alexander Mehrwald cannot resist. The fact that he slaughters everything in the game is mainly thanks to a pink cat.
With shooters, I usually prefer to stay away, as I am really bad at them. Nevertheless, I had to give Borderlands 4 a chance with its own unique charm and RPG elements. The vibrant colors and quirky humor drew me in.
But would I, as a shooter noob, be able to manage? My highest experiences had been with the guns from Uncharted and Tomb Raider, which, to be fair, cannot be compared to a real shooter. Whenever I picked up another shooter, I quickly lost interest.
Completely undecided about which character to choose, I opted for Vex. Her specializations reminded me the most of my previous RPG preferences – and I was not to be disappointed.
Fighting fiercely with Rabatzi
While I died more often in the tutorial than I would like to admit, everything changed for me when I could choose my specialization. I picked the cat, remembering my WoW days when I roamed around with my cat as a hunter.
Quickly, I realized how much more enjoyable the game became with the huge furball affectionately called Rabatzi by my side. The cat helps distract nearby enemies and absorbs damage that would otherwise kill me.
Rabatzi also supports me by often killing enemies “behind the scenes”, outside my field of vision, before I even notice them. This helps me keep track of everything. Plus, you can pet her, which heals her. What more could you want? I was already very happy with that and even had real fun with the shooter.
Skills that deal significant damage even in noob hands
The longer I fought alongside Rabatzi through Kairos, the more I enjoyed experimenting with different skills and trying to find out how to utilize the bond with the stylish pink cat even more effectively. Before I knew it, I was deep into a shooter that I otherwise probably wouldn’t have spent much time on, if the tutorial had continued as it had.
I quickly discovered some combinations that allowed me to dispatch enemies even faster and avoid risking my health bar being depleted. I even found it fun to dive into the fray, explore, and collect endless loot.
Because Rabatzi is not only super cute and can absorb damage for you, she can also deal significant damage, making her a fantastic aid for beginners like me. Eventually, I felt so comfortable with my cat by my side that I even increased the difficulty to enhance the chance of better loot.
For my playstyle, Rabatzi was the best thing that could have happened to me, ensuring that even I, as a shooter noob, had real fun with Borderlands 4.
