Is a huge update coming with patch 2.5 for Diablo 3? A Reddit user has made some astonishing discoveries during data mining!
“Data mining” involves taking a close look at specific game files and examining them closely. The Reddit user Yurlsi has done this with the current files for patch 2.4.1 and found interesting things that we will take a closer look at.
New Torment Levels in Diablo 3
Increasing the torment difficulty to level 16 may be a good move since it usually doesn’t take long in a season to reach (the currently highest) torment level 10 to comfortably handle Nephalem Rifts there. Torment 16 would correspond to around level 65 of a greater Nephalem Rift and might give the smaller rifts a bit more “bite” again.
Devil’s Hand in Diablo 3
According to Diablo Wiki, this is a game mode for the Reaper of Souls expansion of Diablo 3. It is a large quest event where you need to collect more than a dozen items from special monsters. Once you have found and combined these items into a hand, you receive special rewards such as random legendary items. This information comes solely from data mining and has not yet been officially confirmed by Blizzard.
New “Shield” Act Symbol in Diablo 3
It is difficult to interpret what the new act symbol in the form of a shield signifies. This could indicate an entirely new form of act that we have not encountered before. Perhaps it also relates to an expansion of Diablo 3 – but this is just speculation. Interestingly, there is also the “Buy a Hero Slot” button – there are many translated buttons from the Chinese microtransaction store. Perhaps the transactions will soon be available in other regions as well.
Different Types of Blood Shards and New Inventory Items in Diablo 3
These data are a bit older, but show different types of the popular blood shards that can be exchanged for items with Kadala. Perhaps these blood shards are related to the new act symbol or may be obtainable at a higher torment level.

A wide selection of portrait frames in Diablo 3
Some of these portrait frames have already made their way into the game with patch 2.4.1 and are very popular *cough* Rainbow. But as you can see, Blizzard still has some more in store that you might be able to earn in the future.
The Talisman in Diablo 3
This talisman has garnered attention in the past. It was supposed to activate spells that can be placed on the individual slots (originally these spells had a 1×1 size in the talisman). Similar to Diablo 2, this would allow you to add additional spells (attributes) to your character – however, these only work in the talisman and not (as in Diablo 2) in the inventory.
In this data mining, Yurlsi also found various lines hinting at possible purchase options: “BnetStoreBoosts – BloodShard, GoldFind, XPBoost” – we can therefore be very curious about what Diablo 3 has in store for us in the future.
