The SF-MMO WildStar seems to want to boost sales of its base game boxes and is now targeting existing players.
Just when you think you’ve seen every possible marketing stunt in the genre, WildStar comes along. This is something new in the MMO genre. WildStar wants to sell its boxes to players who have already purchased the base game.
Since yesterday, April 15th, WildStar has been running a new promotional campaign. This one appears to target existing WildStar players who are supposed to buy a standard edition box. Normally, that would be nonsensical, as they already have one, many probably even a collector’s edition. Therefore, WildStar is now including unique items and trying to catch players’ collection instincts.
In every standard box sold from April 15th onward, there is a code for one of three rare items. These items, a costume set and two mounts, can be traded freely in the game, and thus sold in the auction house as well. So, if you look at it positively, non-buyers also have the opportunity to get these items. Strangely, it seems that the aim is for players to buy the boxes multiple times “additionally”. Collecting all three items grants a bonus title.
Additionally, players can also use the code included with the WildStar box to increase their existing playtime by 30 days. This means the standard edition of WildStar becomes a sort of “game time card with a surprise egg gimmick.”
Those starting fresh with the game can also use the box to create a new account with 30 days and the “beginner’s gift”.
The standard edition of WildStar is currently priced well above the cost of a game time card. The German WildStar account also advises on Twitter that if you are looking for boxes, be sure to look out for potential discounts.
@Blogiraffe @Vanoyal Correct. Just buy a box in stores and get started. Definitely watch out for possible discounts.
