Races Focused on Diplomacy
In Total War: Warhammer 3, diplomacy plays a significant role as you need allies (and enemies) even amid so much war. The factions here rely on strengthening (or deliberately weakening) diplomatic relations to gain allies or form confederations.
High Elves
- included in Total War: Warhammer 2
- have many contacts with other High Elves from the start
- high elf nobility and court as an additional diplomatic dimension
- can deliberately spin intrigues to improve or worsen relations
- numerous opportunities for confederations
- additional commanders in the DLCs The Queen & The Crone
Slaanesh
- included in Total War: Warhammer 3 (base game)
- spreads Slaanesh corruption through trade
- can befriend actually hostile factions
- can “seduce” enemy units to use them in battle
- additional commander in the upcoming DLC Tides of Torment

Empire
- included in Total War: Warhammer
- is involved in politics with most other Empire factions from the beginning
- always starts in conflict zones that require diplomatic or military solutions
- access to electors, allowing you to unlock additional troops
- secondary strength: offensive military
- additional commanders in the DLCs The Grim & The Grave, The Hunter & The Beast and Elspeth – Thrones of Decay
Vampire Lords
- included in Total War: Warhammer
- can improve diplomacy through bloodlines to more easily make other races vassals (especially Vlad and Isabella von Carstein)
- dominance as a goal either through war or diplomacy (vassals)
- secondary strength: defensive military
- additional commander included in the DLC The Grim & The Grave; Isabella von Carstein as a free DLC included in Warhammer I
Wood Elves (DLC)
- included in the DLC Realm of the Wood Elves
- have a global system of tree roots to travel quickly
establishing contact with distant races for friendly or hostile encounters - especially quick contact with other Wood Elves through many small factions in the center of the map
- “Forest encounters” can lead to confederations
- secondary strength: defensive military
- another commander in the DLC The Twisted & The Twilight
Norsca (DLC)
- included in the DLC Norsca
- start in an area with many Norsca tribes
- defeated Norsca chieftains can be killed or subjugated and thus confederated
- can join or betray Archavon and his chaos crusade
- secondary strength: offensive military
- additional commander in the upcoming DLC Tides of Torment
Ogre Kingdoms (DLC)
- included in the DLC Ogre Kingdoms
- can improve or weaken their diplomatic status with other factions through special missions
- particularly Golgfag has access to mercenary contracts that give him bonuses for diplomacy and gold, but also require war with other factions
- generally interested in neutral relations with other races to trade
- secondary strength: defensive military
- additional legendary commander in the DLC Golgfag – Omens of Destruction
Tzeentch
- included in Total War: Warhammer 3 (base game)
- unique options to transfer settlements and directly influence diplomatic relations through the “Transformation of the Ways”
- the changeling (DLC: The Changeling – Shadows of Change) has no interest in settlements, but creates cults and wants to stir up trouble
