Call of Duty: Modern Warfare offers some ways to customize weapons. Players can change attachments as well as the appearance of weapons. However, those who focus too much on aesthetics will be punished for it.
How do weapons get worse? The user JustFuckMyShitUpTbh on reddit discovered that weapon charms have a negative effect on the accuracy of weapons.
Charms are cosmetics, small accessories that players can attach to the weapon via the Gunsmith feature. They make weapons visually more appealing and are part of the customization options.
However, the user has now found out that charms have a disadvantage. They worsen the spread of weapons when firing from the hip.
The images clearly show the greater spread. We tested it with three weapons (without target lasers) and can confirm it.
More charms = worse weapon?
This is how charms actually affect weapons: Players report that they actually hit worse when the weapon has a charm. It seems not to be just a display error.
A user even tested the actual spread pattern of the same weapon with and without a charm. He fires the AUG once with the charm and once without it in a video. Without the charm, significantly more shots hit the center.
Other options, like special skins or sprays for the weapons, seem to have no impact on the accuracy of the weapons. So far, there have only been reports about charms.
Why is that? Meanwhile, there is a response from the developers. It is a bug and unintentional. A fix is already on the way:
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fully embraces realism, one of the key unique selling points of the game. That unnecessary embellishments on weapons may impair performance would indeed fit into the agenda, even without a bug.
