In Fortnite the community is currently discussing nasty bugs that occur when using Chinese characters in their in-game name.
This is the bug: On reddit, a player shows the clip that is being discussed. It features two examples that create the small bugs. In both instances, the player first eliminates an opponent with an Asian character in their in-game name.
According to the clip creator, this bug has been in the game for several seasons. Other players agree and report similar occurrences.
Asian in-game names cause disadvantages
This is the clip: We’re embedding the video here that shows the small bugs after the kills:
The delay in kills is only small each time, but it is definitely noticeable. In both cases, the players have an Asian character in their name. Once it was Chinese characters, and the second time there was a Japanese character involved.
In the comments on the reddit clip, other players also share these experiences. For instance, Clemibeast writes: “I experienced that yesterday too. I was already wondering. He only had Chinese characters in his name and the game froze for about 10 seconds.”

Why is this a problem? Here in the clip, the delay lasts only a fraction of a second. But even that can sometimes make the difference between life and death. For example, when fighting against 2 opponents at the same time, such a delay could be fatal.
According to reports from other players under the reddit post, this delay can also last longer, and especially then, it can get really nasty. During that time, you are almost defenseless against opponents who can easily collect kills.
Another problem for some players are the loot sharks. They can snatch your loot, as a pro player had to experience in a tournament.
