If you’ve been gaming for a few years, you’ve probably encountered a graphics card or two in everyday life. Sooner or later, many upgrade their system for better performance or because the old hardware is no longer functioning.
Gamers are currently discussing on reddit which Nvidia graphics card is the best. There are several favorites mentioned. Many also explain that you can still play modern games without any problems in 2023 with a 5-6 year old graphics card.
Almost all favorites come from 2015 or 2016
Which graphics cards are the favorites? The GTX 980 Ti from 2015 receives the most upvotes, closely followed by the 1080 Ti. Notably, many popular graphics cards originate from 2015 and 2016. One user writes:

Another user adds that the 1080Ti is still an impressive card today, capable of playing current games smoothly with high details:

Another graphics card that is frequently mentioned is the GeForce GTX 1060. It was also long considered a frontrunner in the monthly Steam hardware survey. It has now been surpassed by the GTX 1650, but it still ranks strongly in second place.
Full HD is the most popular resolution among many
Why do many gamers find an old graphics card sufficient? Many people who voice their opinions in the comments game in Full HD, and the performance of a 980 Ti or a 1080 Ti is still more than adequate. The corona pandemic has particularly led to a boom of very old graphics cards, which suddenly became valuable again due to general hardware scarcity.
Why many gamers are still happy with a 6-year-old graphics card is also shown by a look at the Steam hardware survey: Over 60% of all players are using Full HD. WQHD (2560 x 1440) follows in a close second position with around 12%.
Some also explain: Why should one want to game in 4K with enabled ray tracing when many games can look just as nice in Full HD with high details? And for that, you don’t need an RTX 4080 or RTX 4090 for 1,500 euros or more. Many gamers prefer 144 FPS at Full HD over 4K and 60 FPS.
