Woven in Malice is one of the Lost Chapters of Where Winds Meet. Here you can learn how to unlock the side quest and address possible issues.
What kind of quest is this? Woven in Malice is an event quest in Where Winds Meet. It belongs to the Lost Chapters, which are special side quests waiting to be discovered. You can expect a lot of loot as a reward.
However, unlocking and starting the quest is not that easy, and it can be quite error-prone as well. That’s why we will show you the optimal way to activate it, and we will give you tips on how to possibly resolve issues.
How to start the quest and find the scholar
In the menu, you can find the quest under the “Event” section. There is also a brief description and a hint of where to start the quest. You should look for a scholar near the Buddha Fortress:
- For this, it’s best to travel to the milestone named “Buddha Fortress” in the northeast of Qinghe. We have marked the milestone and the location where you can find the scholar on this map:

- Once you arrive, keep an eye open for a person in a light outfit and a black headpiece, who is located across from a bronze bell. You will find it near a tree in close proximity. Here is what the scholar looks like:

- Talk to him and choose one of the response options. Which one you choose does not matter for the quest.
- Wait a moment and then talk to the scholar again. You need a bit of patience here, and sometimes it helps to walk around a bit and return to the scholar until you can talk to him again.
- He will then give you a hint that a whole day should pass, thereby activating the quest. You can find and track it in your quest log in your journal. You can find out how to change the time in the game in this guide.
- Then you just need to follow the individual steps, all of which will be marked for you to easily complete the quest.

Known issues and possible solutions
Some players encounter the problem that they cannot start the quest at all. This is usually because the scholar cannot be found and does not appear at the marked location on the map even after some time.
This may be because you have not fulfilled some hidden requirements in the game, or simply that you have unfortunately fallen victim to a bug.
The following solutions have worked for us or other players:
- Defeat all enemies in and around the location at the Buddha Fortress and wait a moment before returning to the location
- It may be that an enemy is blocking the appearance of the scholar
- Complete side quests near the location
- Some players have found it helpful to complete smaller side quests in the immediate area
- Progress in the main story
- If you have not yet arrived in Kaifeng, it may be that you have not progressed far enough in the game to start the quest
- Continue to explore the world and increase your exploration level
- For us, it helped to reach exploration level 3 for the scholar to appear at the right location and the quest to be started
- Finish the game and restart it
- Sounds simple, but it has worked before
What if none of this helps? If you have already tried all this and invested some time, it is likely that you are experiencing a widespread bug. Just wait a few days or, if it is very important to you, contact the support of Where Winds Meet.
You can usually reach the support at this address: [email protected], which you can also find on the page about cross-progression.
