The developers of Where Winds Meet have so far struggled to convey why you should take a look at the new open-world role-playing game. Therefore, they are now seeking external help, and the community is excited.
What is Where Winds Meet? A large, complex, and packed genre mix that makes it impossible to convey all the important pillars of the open-world role-playing game through short trailers, posts on social media channels, and press releases.
Despite the incredibly successful launch in China, the developers at Everstone have put relatively little effort into promoting Where Winds Meet in the West.
Especially considering how ambitious and large the role-playing game is, and when looking at the Free2Play model, which can only be successful if many players download it, stick around, and invest money in the optional microtransactions.
Since the final release in the West is scheduled to take place soon (on November 14, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Mobile), it was almost overdue for the developers to get their act together and properly introduce the game – which already fascinated us in a beta test version – to the local audience. And that’s exactly what happened, and they sought help!
What does this help look like? The developers have teamed up with TheLazyPeon. The well-known content creator has specialized in MMORPGs and has published over 740 videos on his channel on YouTube over the years. The number of 769,000 subscribers shows that many genre fans appreciate his contributions and assessments.
The latest stream went live on the official YouTube channel of Where Winds Meet, as TheLazyPeon talks about the new role-playing game and shows gameplay for about 40 minutes together with the developers. If you want to catch up on the entire preview stream, you can do so below, but we also provide a summary of the key insights.
Season 1 already has start and end dates
Below we summarize the topics that were specifically discussed in the stream.
- Where Winds Meet is an action role-playing game set in an open world and based on a Wuxia setting as well as martial arts battles. The developers use a turbulent era of Chinese history as a starting point: the transition between the Tang and Song dynasties.
- Two large regions, Qinghe and Kaifeng, will be available for exploration at launch, allowing you to travel freely on foot, on a mount, or even flying. However, a good portion of the game world is also located underground, in caves and tunnels.
- In addition to the campaign, all players can expect elaborately staged and narrated side quest lines in the open world, where outcomes are expected to have noticeable effects.
- The combat styles are heavily influenced by your choice of weapons. Whether it’s a simple sword, dual blades, umbrella, fan, rope, Mo-blade, or spear… they all play differently. Furthermore, you can expect 12 different martial arts variants and 23 skills that will also impact your gameplay.
- To ensure that all these variants feel good and are spectacularly staged (after all, we are talking about the Wuxia genre), they have brought Stephen Tung Wai, an experienced, award-winning action choreographer, onto the team, who has classics like A Better Tomorrow, Hard Boiled, or Hero in his resume.
- Challenging bosses await you not only during the campaign and quests, but you might also stumble into an epic world boss battle while exploring the world.
- The developers emphasize the sheer degree of freedom in the world. For example: If you feel like it, you can simply pull out a fishing rod and hunt for fish in a normal way. Or you can throw countless fish into the air with a Tai Chi movement.
- This freedom is supported by the world with its day-night cycle and the inhabitants, who behave depending on the time of day and the weather. In the city of Kaifeng alone, thousands of NPCs are said to follow their daily routines.
- If you maintain a good relationship with the inhabitants and increase your reputation, you can receive useful rewards or activate secret quests. They can be your informants, duel opponents, witnesses to your crimes, or drinking buddies.
- You can expect various side activities such as card games, Pitch Pot (where you have to throw drunken darts into a pot), reaction and speed tests, debates (with cards and hit points), doctor games (with healing skills and hit points), and more. You will experience a shadow theater, a lion dance, and a Chinese opera.
- Thanks to flexible level scaling that adapts to your current character level, you can go to any place in the world at any time as soon as you have entered the open world.
- The developers emphasize that the Free2Play model should be without Pay2Win elements. Future updates, which will also be free, will bring seasons, new modes, and time-limited events.
- The first season is called Blade Out and is set to run from November 14, 2025, to February 5, 2026. No details on that have been released yet.
TheLazyPeon himself emphasizes in the stream:
When you first enter Where Winds Meet, you will be blown away by the immense level of detail and the natural beauty of the open world. In the distance, you can see the peaks of mountains and ancient structures, and you have the freedom to actually travel to these places.
Basically, every structure is enterable, you can interact with every NPC, and the world is full of secrets just waiting to be discovered. This makes the world feel truly alive.
Although TheLazyPeon specializes in MMORPGs and the stream lasted about 40 minutes, it didn’t even touch upon the optional MMO and multiplayer contents of Where Winds Meet. Good thing you have us: Where Winds Meet: How much MMORPG is in the new mega hit from China?
You can optionally also play the campaign and all quests and other content from the single-player mode with friends in cooperative mode.
How is the community reacting to all the promises and the shown gameplay? From many of the over 300 comments under the video and the more than 3,690 upvotes, a great anticipation can be read.
- JURO768KUJO is confident on YouTube: “A peak game is coming our way.”
- wls4jr cannot believe it under the video: “That this game is free is so fantastic. I played on the Chinese server, so I can vouch for it… I can’t wait to easily connect with people in the global game.”
- LaiLo444 seems to have played already: “I love this game so far. You can tell it was developed with a lot of attention to detail, it’s just incredible.”
- HunterD006 hopes for the best: “Looks fantastic, I really hope it lives up to my expectations because I want to spend many hours with it.”
Unfortunately, we can only speak in detail about our experiences with the latest version of Where Winds Meet on November 12. However, we already have another report from the beta: The most impressive open-world RPG in a long time, if it weren’t for all these menus!
