Where Winds Meet is definitely one of the more popular games of 2025. But what makes it so successful and where are the pitfalls? Our MMORPG expert Karsten has taken a close look at the game in the GameStar Talk.
Who is joining the GameStar Talk and what is it about? In the latest GameStar Talk, GameStar host Lea Herfurtner, GameStar editor Jonas Gössling, and MeinMMO senior and MMORPG expert Karsten Scholz take a detailed look at the new role-playing hit from China.
Where Winds Meet is a free-to-play action RPG with MMORPG elements and a huge open world that is hard to summarize fittingly in short. The game enjoys great popularity and is almost too extensive to be a free-to-play title.
In the talk, the three discuss what makes the game so successful and focus mainly on the following points:
- Implementation of the Wuxia genre in the game
- Volume of features and difficulty of entry
- Monetization and time limitations
- Use of AI and unique features

The game is also available for PS5, the Epic Games Store, and via an official launcher, so the total player counts are significantly higher.
