The developers of Where Winds Meet unveiled a trailer for a brand new expansion at the GameAwards, showcasing several important story characters.
What kind of trailer is this? The new trailer, presented during the GameAwards, is called “The Imperial Palace” trailer and announces an upcoming expansion for Where Winds Meet. Key characters from the game’s campaign are featured.
This includes a reunion with Aunt Han and Uncle Jiang, as well as many combat scenes. Meanwhile, Big Zhao watches the events from a rooftop while enjoying a cup of tea. Other action-packed scenes set in new locations are also shown.

New expansion is coming, but not for another year
When will The Imperial Palace be released? According to the video description of the trailer on YouTube, the expansion “The Imperial Palace”, where players will experience the material shown in the video for themselves, will not be released until late 2026.
There could be several reasons for this. The western version is currently lagging behind the Chinese version. Progress needs to be made here before new story elements can come to the west, so the narrative does not get confused.
An unofficial roadmap for 2026 predicts that the current story will be fully completed in the west by the end of 2026. The new expansion could thus mark the beginning of a completely new story and could already be the highlight of the game for 2026.
How are the fans reacting? Fans are excited to see the characters in the trailer again. However, they are also making speculations. Reddit user zq19871127 believes that the scene with Aunt Han was just kind of a flashback showing the fight between her and her lover Chu Qingquan, who was featured in one of the side quests.
