MeinMMO editor-in-chief Leya spent 10 hours in the beta of one of the currently most successful action RPGs in China, Where Winds Meet. In a new video on YouTube, she reports on her experiences and assessments – and is overwhelmed by impressions.
In December 2024, a new Wuxia action RPG was released in China, with an estimated player count of over 10 million. “Where Winds Meet” by Everstone Studio is now planning its release in the West and is set to launch later this year on PC and for PS5.
Our editor-in-chief Leya Jankowski has already spent 10 hours in the closed beta for the West and found that it offers a formal flood of content in this open world set in China during the 10th century. This can be overwhelming at first, but she quickly realized that it is precisely this abundance that makes the world feel so alive.

A lot of potential, with a few weaknesses – at least for the West
What can you learn from the video? Leya shows excerpts of her experiences in Where Winds Meet. These include not only the battles, the Wuxia abilities, and the design of the environments. Above all, the abundance of different quests and interactions with the environment and its characters come to the fore.
At one moment, she wants to help a girl retrieve a lost ball for her dog, while at another, she encounters a group of bandits in the same mission. At one point, she is even attacked by angry geese.
Leya believes that this amount of content and mechanics can particularly excite hardcore RPG nerds, but may also put off other players from the West. You can find out more on YouTube.
What are the reactions like? Under the video on YouTube, the first reactions to Leya’s opinion, as well as to “Where Winds Meet” itself, are showing:
- miwakosato8264 thinks: “Looks interesting, I have had it on my Steam and PS5 list for a while, but as a pure PVE and solo player, I hope it doesn’t have open PVP or gear with enhancement stuff that could break like BDO.”
Leya has already responded that you can turn off encounters with other players in the game, as she did during the beta. You can also play in closed co-op, which she has also tested.

We at MeinMMO can understand this well, as we informed the user. When we tried the game, we were able to empathize with it ourselves.
In the game, Leya also encountered NPCs with AI chat boxes that function like ChatGPT. When Leya wanted to relay her own advice as a boss to an NPC to improve his leadership skills, he did not take it well and simply attacked her instead.
- lbot249 adds: “I think the AI understood it such that you told him his people are lazy because he himself doesn’t lead by example, since you asked him to actually lead by example, lol, so typical Chinese.”
Leya can understand that. However, we still agree that the AI NPC reacted pretty rudely.
