In Where Winds Meet you need to choose a difficulty level. MeinMMO explains what you need to know and how to change the difficulty later. It’s possible to do so without much hassle, although there are a few restrictions.
Which difficulty level is the best? At the beginning of the game, you have to choose a difficulty level. At this moment, there are 4 difficulty levels available, with the 5th mode currently locked but will follow soon:
- Story: The easiest difficulty level. This allows you to enjoy the story without having to worry much about the enemies. The Taiping Mausoleum and the ascension trials are not affected by this.
- Recommended: The best middle ground. The battles are moderately challenging. If you already have experience with action RPGs, this setting is recommended.
- Expert: The battles are challenging, and you should know your skills well. Additional aids like the distraction assist are turned off.
- Legend: A particularly tough difficulty level that you can only choose right at the beginning of the game. A later switch to Legend is NOT possible.
- Hardcore: If you die, your character is gone. Currently, Hardcore is not available yet.
Our tip: Choose the “Recommended” difficulty level; from here, you can make your life easier (Story) or harder (Expert). Here, the majority of standard enemies in the game world can be handled without any problems, but the bosses are still challenging enough.
Changing difficulty in the game
This is how you change the difficulty:
- Go to the game settings. You can do this through the right menu and the gear icon.
- Here, switch to the “Game” tab if it is not already selected.
- Under the “General Settings”, select the “Combat Difficulty” option. Here you can switch the difficulty level between Story, Recommended, and Expert.
When can I not change the difficulty?
- If you are currently in a co-op or multiplayer session, you cannot change the difficulty. Leave the co-op session to change the difficulty.
- If you have chosen the Legend difficulty, you can leave this difficulty, but you cannot return to it. You will receive a corresponding warning from the game.
- You cannot change the Hardcore mode after confirmation.
