To Call of Duty: Modern Warfare there is an outrageously expensive Dark Edition available for purchase. It costs 200 Euros and includes a night vision device as a gimmick that many Call of Duty fans want to have.
What is included in the Dark Edition? For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you can purchase a special Dark Edition in addition to the regular version. It costs 200 Euros and initially does not include much special in-game items:
- Special tactical knife
- Operator Pack: “Well Camouflaged”
- Operator Pack: “Crew Expendable”
- Operator Pack: “Call Sign War Pig”
Each of the skin packs contains an outfit for your character as well as a weapon skin.
That sounds nice, but what makes the Dark Edition really special is a very special physical item. The Dark Edition is said to contain a functioning night vision device, which is also used in the game for the darkness missions and night maps.
What’s the deal with the night vision device?
Does the night vision device work? Fans of the Call of Duty series may remember the special edition of Modern Warfare 2. It already included such a device (in a bulkier, older design). It actually worked and provided night vision in black/white or the famous green tones.
Close-ups of the device from the current version also show solid processing and various knobs and switches. So it’s quite possible that this gadget is fully functional as well.
But don’t expect a high-tech device that is really used by military special forces. Such devices are worth far over 1,000 Euros. The Dark Edition version should, according to statements from several fans on Twitter, function more like a classic security camera, but that is sufficient for basic night vision.
How do the fans react? But no matter how powerful the device is, the fans of the game are thrilled. Under a tweet about the introduction of the Dark Edition, there are a lot of statements praising it:
- “Damn, I’ve already pre-ordered the operator version!!!”
- “Looks like I might soon have a night vision device.”
- “Looks like Call of Duty is equipping us with night vision devices for the Area 51 raid.”
- “Looks way cooler than the one from Modern Warfare 2”
- “My wife will never allow that, lol.”

In Europe, you will have to pay 200 Euros for the Dark Edition.
You can at least pre-order the PS4 version of the Dark Edition on Amazon. An Xbox One version is offered but is not available for pre-order.
