First, you should ask yourself what you want to do with a gaming laptop. We present you with 4 user groups:
- Casual gamers: Are you looking for a notebook where gaming is not the priority or your budget is not that big? Instead, you are looking for a solid notebook for multimedia and want to play a game every now and then.
- Hardcore gamers: Gaming is the priority; you prefer to do work and other tasks on the tablet or other devices. Mobility is not that important to you since the gaming laptop is almost always in the same place.
- Gaming and working: You want to both game and work, and your laptop will be used for almost all tasks. Good performance is required not only for gaming but also for work.
Price: How much does a good gaming laptop cost?
If you are looking for a gaming laptop as a casual gamer, you should be willing to spend around 1000 euros. However, the installed graphics chip may not necessarily be future-proof. Budget computers often skimp on cooling and display features.
For good gaming laptops, you can expect to pay between 1500 to 2000 euros. Often, you will get high-quality models with a fast graphics card that can handle modern titles with high settings smoothly.
For devices with the latest hardware and high performance, you should be prepared to pay 2500 or more.
In general, the same applies here: Be clear about what you want to do with the laptop and whether the financial investment is truly worthwhile.
What is better for gaming: Desktop PC or laptop?
In this section, we want to show you which device is better suited for whom. We will present both the gaming PC and the gaming laptop in various categories.
Performance
In terms of performance and capabilities, modern gaming laptops hardly lag behind the desktop competition. Desktop PCs still offer a performance advantage and, for example, more options for heat management.
Generally, you get more for your money with a desktop PC; prices for notebooks are often higher.
Mobility
The biggest strength of the notebook is its mobility. If you want to game or work on the go, then a laptop is the best choice. You can easily pack the laptop into a backpack or bag. While you could theoretically do the same with a desktop PC, it would be much more cumbersome.
For your laptop, you generally need significantly fewer cables. A workplace with a laptop often looks cleaner than with a desktop PC. Even if you only rely on Bluetooth, you still have power cables and connections somewhere.
Desktop PCs also require a power outlet and a monitor. In contrast, the laptop already includes the monitor panel and internal battery. The desktop PC is much more dynamic at a fixed location, as you have more connections and can easily mount additional expansions on your motherboard.
Hardware Upgrades
This is where the biggest disadvantage of a laptop lies. Upgrading is hardly possible with laptops due to their compact design.
In some notebooks, you can change the RAM or the hard drive, but a CPU or GPU upgrade is practically impossible for the user. This is not offered even by the manufacturers themselves.
