The trailer for the Minecraft movie is causing a stir among its creators. The opinions are devastating – and the majority does not believe in its success.
In recent years, players around the world have shown that series adaptations or film adaptations of popular games can be a great success and really good. Arcane, The Last of Us, and the Mario movie have set the bar quite high. Then came the Borderlands movie, proving that failure can still happen.
Now Minecraft has followed suit and wanted to prove that a good movie can be made. But even the trailer disappoints.
Because the fans are unanimous: It looks terrible.
What kind of trailer is this? The trailer for the “Minecraft Movie,” that is, the adaptation of the popular game. The film seems to be a mix of “live action” with actual actors like Jack Black and lots of CGI for all the creatures and the world of Minecraft.
The creatures from Minecraft retain their “blocky” look but consist of high-resolution graphics instead of the pixelated look that Minecraft usually offers.
This is how the trailer is rated on YouTube: Although the trailer received over 12 million views within 20 hours, the rating is quite devastating. About 60% of the ratings for the trailer on YouTube are negative. The trailer has already accumulated over 570,000 thumbs down, with nearly 400,000 thumbs up (as of 05.09.2024, 1:00 PM).
Even the comments with the most votes are all negative.

A Reddit post titled “Jesus Christ. We need to stop this.” shows a picture of the sheep from the trailer – and has over 21,000 upvotes. The unanimous opinion is summed up again by ace8995:

It seems that the charm of the “pixel look” of Minecraft, which fits well with the blocky appearance of the world and creatures, is completely lost once too many details are added to the beings.
