The MMORPG Black Desert has enlisted actress Megan Fox to promote the release on PS4. After several weeks of waiting, we now see the live-action trailer. It aims to show a magical transformation into the true self.
What’s going on with Megan Fox and Black Desert? This has been a long-standing question. Pearl Abyss, the developers of the MMORPG, have contracted Megan Fox (Transformers) as the “spoke-person” for the PS4 launch:
- On August 22, a 15-second teaser trailer was released, featuring her driving through the desert in a convertible.
- On August 30, a sort of interview with Megan Fox was released, in which she explained that Black Desert can help young girls feel empowered. It could have a therapeutic effect.
These videos were met with criticism from MMORPG fans. Questions arose about what exactly Megan Fox has to do with Black Desert and why it reflects so little of the experiences players have in the MMORPG.
The overarching idea of the campaign is that Black Desert can help individuals find their “true self.”
Live-Action Trailer for Black Desert on PS4
This is shown in the new trailer: On September 5, the final “Live Action Trailer” for Black Desert for PS4 featuring Megan Fox in the lead role was released.
The actress has a breakdown in the desert, of course, there’s no mobile reception. So she gets out and immediately sees a laser beam in the distance.
As she approaches the beam, she first fixes her hair and then runs towards the beam. Ultimately, she discovers a magical PS4 controller in the sand and transforms from a beautiful actress into a just as beautiful MMORPG heroine.
Somehow, she seems to have skipped the class selection.
This is the message: The video is advertised as “It takes courage to move forward and become who you really are. Watch Megan’s transformation as she travels through the desert to become her true self.”
What’s behind it? It’s actually a classic commercial:
- Beautiful woman promotes “beautiful product”
- The advantages of Black Desert, the great graphics, are put in the spotlight
Because this likely doesn’t quite fit into today’s times, the “True Self” concept is added.
MMORPG players have already critically noted in recent weeks that what’s shown doesn’t really have much to do with Black Desert.
While playing, players tend to deal with mundane issues, such as players “blocking spots in Black Desert and biting anyone who wants to come near.”
Black Desert is currently the strongest PS4 game in the PS Store for new games in 2019.
