On the night of June 8, 2024, the Summer Game Fest 2024 took place, marking the most significant video game show since the end of the E3. Among the announcements and trailers, one developer’s appearance stood out in particular.
Which game is it about? Alan Wake 2 was released in October 2023, thus entering the race for the title “Game of the Year” quite late. Nevertheless, the horror adventure was a secret favorite for many players.
At the Summer Game Fest 2024, studio head Sam Lake announced the first major expansion for Alan Wake 2: Night Springs will feature three playable characters, each experiencing their own, self-contained story.
And surprise: The release was announced for the following day, June 8, 2024. Additionally, starting today, physical Collector’s and Deluxe Editions of Alan Wake 2 can also be pre-ordered. Besides the announcement itself, Sam Lake particularly excited audiences with his appearance.

Studio Head Steals the Spotlight from His Own DLC
What made the appearance so special? Those searching for the tag “#summergamefest” on X, previously Twitter, will find studio head Sam Lake in 4 of the 5 current top posts. The Creative Director danced onto the stage before jokingly announcing: This was the only way he was allowed to come on stage to announce something exciting.

Fans describe Sam Lake in the comments as an “absolute treasure” that “must be protected at all costs.” For some, the appearance was even the highlight of the show. On YouTube, a fan writes: “You can’t even imagine how much joy it brought me to see Sam dance onto the stage.”
Where can you buy the DLC? Night Springs is exclusively available for owners of the Deluxe Edition of Alan Wake 2 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and in the Epic Game Store. Until June 13, 2024, you can get the Deluxe upgrade on Epic for €16 instead of €20.
At the Game Awards 2023, Alan Wake 2 had to concede defeat to the role-playing hit Baldur’s Gate 3.
