Dungeons & Dragons has long since been bound to a table with miniatures and printed character sheets, yet it still retains a special flair. This is exactly the flair that a virtual tabletop game aims to capture, bringing the miniatures to a virtual version of the continent Faerûn from the Forgotten Realms of D&D.
Which game is being discussed? It is about the virtual tabletop game Demeo by Resolution Games, which will release a spinoff before the end of the year, collaborating with another role-playing game: Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. It is set to appear on Steam and for the PS5, and will also be playable in VR.
In the latest trailer, they already showcase some characters and enemies in the form of miniatures, stylized environments, and gameplay. It feels like a virtual version of a board game, as one knows it from Demeo, but now it includes the classes, races, and lore of the D&D multiverse.

The community is full of anticipation
How does the crossover affect the already known Demeo? The developers report that in Dungeons & Dragons, the story is at least as important as the battles. For this reason, Tommy Palm, founder and CEO of Resolution Games, explains that they have reoriented their approach in collaboration to deliver more: ‘With the addition of dramatic cutscenes, richer dialogues, and deeper player choices, Battlemarked marks the beginning of the next resurgence of the Demeo action-role-playing system.’ (Tommy Palm in a press release via PCGamesN)
The developers really seem serious about this, as a storyteller for their game, Matt Sernett, once worked as a story designer for Dungeons & Dragons and the Baldur’s Gate series, which sounds very promising.
What is the community’s reaction? Under the gameplay trailer on YouTube, the first reactions of potential players show how much the community has awaited such an opportunity to play Dungeons & Dragons:
- ‘We live in the best time. I could have never imagined in 5th grade that something like this would exist today. Thank you for bringing this into the world!’ writes Fechual.
- ‘Looks sick!!! Can’t wait to play with my buddies and roll some dice,’ writes HabaneroLongboarding.
- ‘Well, they actually laid the foundation for what Project Sigil didn’t achieve. I wonder if they could go further and introduce 5e. Then you would have the biggest thing that the DnD community yearns for <3,’ writes carryaushongkong.
Dungeons & Dragons has arrived in the mainstream, especially since video games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and well-known streamers like Critical Role, making more and more newcomers curious. Demeo’s Battlemarked could offer many of these interested parties another entry point, but those who prefer to play traditionally at the table might win over more players with a new starter set of the TTRPG: If you have always wanted to convince your friends to play Dungeons & Dragons, you will soon have the perfect opportunity
