Blizzard has finally announced a release date for WoW Classic. In August, you can finally satisfy your craving for Vanilla and play WoW Classic. A beta will also be available prior.
When is the release exactly? The exact release date for WoW: Classic will be August 27, 2019. Thus, Blizzard keeps its promise to make Classic playable by summer 2019.
Up to three characters can be created starting August 13, 2019, if you have an active subscription or game time. This way, you can secure a character name.
How can I participate? If you want to play Classic, you only need a subscription to World of Warcraft. This costs standardly €12.99 per month and includes both Classic and Retail up to and including Legion.
You will need to purchase the latest expansion Battle for Azeroth separately if you want to play the most current version.
WoW Classic is also downloaded and played through the Battle.net client, which you can download from the official website.
How do I participate in the beta? Before WoW Classic starts in August, there will be a beta for testing. Stress tests are also planned to check server load. You can learn how to participate in the WoW Classic beta in our article.
What’s in WoW Classic
These features WoW Classic has: WoW Classic is supposed to be the classic and (almost) unembellished version of World of Warcraft, as veterans remember it from about 15 years ago. However, some minor adjustments have been made, such as loot distribution.
However, other features are still exactly as they were before, even if they may seem “worse” compared to the current version. Spells are queried more slowly, which can lead to certain combinations and overlaps of abilities.
Additionally, WoW Classic is supposed to launch at the state of Classic Patch 1.12. Content will be released gradually according to phases that correspond to the former patch states. This ensures that players can see everything, and WoW Classic will still provide incentives to play after several weeks and months.
