We are particularly looking forward to these 5 new Hearthstone cards

The next expansion of Hearthstone is almost here. We show you 5 cards on MeinMMO that we definitely want to experiment with in “Saviors of Uldum”.

On August 6, it will be time again for new content for all Hearthstone fans: The new expansion “Saviors of Uldum” will launch.

Of the 135 new cards, many look tempting, and numerous new cards have unique and special effects. We have made a selection from all the cards and present you 5 cards that we definitely want to experiment with.

1. Yogg-Saron’s Puzzlebox

The puzzle box of the old god Yogg-Saron was not only one of my favorite items in WoW, but it will likely also be in Hearthstone. Many players hate the RNG factor of Hearthstone, but I think it enriches the game immensely.

The more I love “Chaos Cards” like Yogg-Saron’s Puzzlebox, which casts a total of 10 random spells on random targets for 10 mana.

Anything can happen. You can roast yourself or opponents with a Fireball, wipe the entire board, summon numerous minions, or even die because you drew too many cards.

Is it a particularly planned spell? Certainly not. Will it be fun and turn some lost matches around? Absolutely!

2. Anubisath Warrior

The Anubisath Warrior is just a common card in Hearthstone, but it has a pretty powerful effect. For 9 mana, it has stats of 9/6 and poses a considerable threat to the opponent, who needs to be dealt with quickly. However, this is where its deathrattle comes into play. When it dies, it grants all minions in its owner’s hand a hefty buff of +3/+3. This can turn small, weak creatures into significant threats.

I can’t wait to build a Murloc or Zoo deck around it, sacrifice a bit of tempo, and then attack with little minions on steroids in the next turn. Unlike the priest spell Descent into Madness, only the minions in hand are affected, but the Anubisath Warrior has hardly any drawbacks.

3. Desert Obelisk

The Desert Obelisk is a card considered to be quite “tricky” and can only work if you build your whole deck around it. It costs a hefty 5 mana and has stats of only 0/5 – so it cannot attack. However, it deals 5 damage to a random opponent if you have 3 Obelisks. Since each of the 3 Obelisks then fires, that would result in 15 damage per turn.

Normally, each card in a deck can only be present 2 times, so you have to copy the Obelisk multiple times or summon smaller versions through other tricks. I like decks with rather unusual “win conditions”.

I doubt that the Obelisk will make it into any top decks, but it could be useful and fun for some shenanigans. And that’s what it’s all about, right?

4. King Phaoris

For 10 mana, King Phaoris in Hearthstone only has weak stats of 5/5, but its battle cry already makes it one of my favorite cards, for which I will definitely build a Mage deck. It summons a random minion for each spell in the player’s hand, corresponding to its mana cost.

If you have a spell for 7 mana, one for 5 mana, and one for 3 mana in your hand, Phaoris summons a minion with costs 7, 5, and 3. The idea behind the card is that you have your hand full of big spells that can deal significant damage to the opponent.

And which class would be better suited than the Mage? With sensible spells like Fireball or Pyroblast, the King can prepare the battlefield for a victory. But other classes, such as the Priest, could also benefit from it.

I am sure if you try, King Phaoris can be a sensible addition to any class – that’s exactly what I want to try out.

5. Zephrys the Great

Zephrys the Great is likely to be a real wild card for the time being. At least if you are willing to meet its conditions. The elemental for 2 mana has stats of 3/2 and requires in its battle cry that no card can be duplicated in the player’s deck. If that is the case, Zephrys suggests three cards to the player that he sees as the perfect help for this exact game situation.

The catch is that the cards are not offered randomly. Instead, there is a complicated AI behind Zephrys that analyzes the game field and takes into account many factors:

  • How many minions are on the field?
  • How much health do both players have left?
  • How many cards are in the players’ decks or on their hands?
  • Who is currently in the lead?

If you are missing a board clear, which would turn the game around, it is very likely that Zephrys will offer exactly that.

I would love to experiment for hours and find out how good this card really is or if it brings more frustration than enjoyment.

Which cards are you particularly looking forward to? Do you have any ideas for cool decks?
