Cylostra Direfin
This character is particularly interesting in one way, as it would not have existed without a certain video game. Cylostra Direfin was created by Games Workshop in cooperation with Creative Assembly, the developers of the “Total War: Warhammer” trilogy. The Vampire Coast was added as a DLC after the release in part two of the series.
Before drifting the seas as a vengeful spirit, Cylostra was the favorite singer of the Bretonnian king—a prima donna of considerable size and temperament. Her talent was so great that she was sent on a diplomatic mission to the High Elves in Ulthuan to sing for the Phoenix King, her supreme ruler.
The High Elves appreciate the arts and especially singing. Cylostra was thus given a great task. Her already large ego was only further inflated by this. On the ship Nine-Eye, which was to take her to the High Elves, she commanded the crew about and threatened everyone who opposed her. Even back then, her stature was impressive and intimidated the captain, who followed every one of her orders.
Just a small distance off the coast of Ulthuan, the crew of the ship discovered a storm. The captain, an experienced sailor, wanted to sail around it—however, that would mean they would arrive at the High Elves a day late. For Cylostra, any delay was unacceptable, and when the captain attempted to go against her, she threw him overboard. So, the Nine-Eye sailed right into the storm.
In her arrogance, Cylostra believed she could conquer the storm with her singing, which, unsurprisingly, did not work. Before she drowned along with the crew, Cylostra swore to return to perform her greatest performance ever. Stromfels, the god of the dangers of the sea, which include storms, heard this oath and granted her immortality. She returned as a ghostly siren and once again commands the Nine-Eye. This cursed ship is most often sighted in storms.
In the DLC “Lords of the End Times” for Total War: Warhammer 3, the Vampire Coast can also expect new content, as it was part of Nagash’s army. But before that, there is a smaller DLC in scope that brings some units of the Tiger Men into the strategy game: The first mini-DLC for Total War: Warhammer 3 is officially here, introducing a race that fans have speculated about for a long time.
