Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 can be a real challenge depending on the difficulty level. We’ll show you what to consider when choosing the difficulty level and how to change it.
What difficulty levels are there? In Space Marine 2, you can adjust the difficulty levels for the campaign and the missions.
For the campaign, you can choose between “Easy”, “Normal”, “Veteran”, and “Angel of Death”. For the missions, which you currently can actually only play with others, but not solo, you choose between the difficulty levels “Minimal”, “Moderate”, “Significant”, and “Merciless”.

What to consider when choosing the difficulty level
You can base your choice of difficulty level on these criteria:
- How much experience do you have with the game? If you are familiar with the game and have been playing it for a while, a higher difficulty level won’t hurt.
- Are you playing alone or together with others? While the bots will support you in combat, they are not as smart as a real player. If you have a real person in your team instead of a bot companion, you can comfortably set a level higher difficulty.
- Can you parry? A large part of fighting in Space Marine 2 is based on parrying. If you are not good at it, or if you are overwhelmed with other gameplay mechanics, you should choose a gentler level.
How do I change the difficulty level? If the currently set difficulty is too easy or too challenging for you, you can change it in the settings under “Game”. However, you first need to complete the introductory mission until you reach the Battlefleet.
Only when you are here can you adjust the difficulty level. If you are currently in the middle of a mission, you need to either abort or complete it in order to make changes. If you are playing with others, only the squad leader can adjust the difficulty.
Does the difficulty level affect loot? Yes, it does. At least in the missions. At easier difficulty levels, you get more ammunition and armor data, and at higher difficulties, you get less.
In addition to the challenging enemies, you also need to manage your ammunition properly. Additionally, the Medicae Stims restore less health the higher the difficulty level is.
Not only the choice of difficulty level, but also the selection of your weapons and your class are decisive for your gaming experience. We have compiled a tier list with all 22 weapons that you can use as a reference: Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2: Tier List of the Best Weapons
