8 years after the failed 3rd installment, a new entry in the strategy game series set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe has been announced with Dawn of War 4. The developers explain how they want to make fans’ hearts race.
Wait, there is a Dawn of War 4? Yes! The long-awaited sequel to the strategy game series was announced at gamescom 2025 and is being developed by the Bremen studio King Art. MeinMMO editor Benedict was already able to take a look at the game and was enthusiastic after 30 minutes.
8 years after the short-lived Dawn of War 3, fans are finally hoping for a worthy successor to the first part. In an interview with PC Gamer, the developers talked about where their priorities lie.
Fans just wanna have singleplayer campaigns?
And what do the fans want? According to Jan Theysen, the Creative Director and Game Director, it is primarily strong singleplayer campaigns. This is intended to be one of the major cornerstones of Dawn of War 4. After all, the studio is known for producing games with a strong narrative element.
The developers came to this conclusion after surveying players of their RTS Iron Harvest about the most important game modes: “By a large majority, it was singleplayer content and the campaign.”
And because the campaign is so important, there won’t just be one in Dawn of War 4: Instead, each of the 4 factions will get a dynamic campaign with optional missions, in which player decisions are also supposed to play a role.
Based on an initial calculation by our editor Benedict, this could mean 30-35 hours of gameplay, based on his experiences with the demo.
But even if the campaign isn’t your main concern, you shouldn’t feel shortchanged. Although King Art affirms that the focus is here, Senior Game Designer Elliott Verbiest also says: “Of course, we will also have multiplayer modes for those who want to play with or against their friends or other players.”
