In Warframe (PC, PS4, Xbox One) it’s still going strong in 2017. Now more of “Plains of Eidolon” is being revealed, the major MMO expansion for the lobby shooter.
Warframe is a lobby shooter where players zip through tight corridors as Space Ninjas, jumping, shooting, and dodging. Since 2013, more and more shooter fans have been donning their Warframes, those martial-futuristic exoskeletons, to take on the universe.
Even though the free-to-play game has grown larger and more popular over the years, the core principle hasn’t changed: Warframe? These are individual, clearly separated missions.
Fans were amazed when it became clear at the in-house convention Tennocon: We’re getting an Open World.

Everyone is waiting for “Plains of Eidolon”, the experimental update for Warframe
With the expansion “Plains of Eidolon”, developer Digital Extremes is introducing more MMO elements to Warframe. There will be an open zone with day/night cycles, giant monsters, a city, and much more – even the MMORPG-typical “fishing” is being added. All of this is expected to happen in Autumn 2017.
We extensively reported on the presentation in July and praised the developer for the outstanding presentation with a surprise factor. However, it has been relatively quiet about the expansion lately.
Yesterday there was another presentation with a live developer stream, trailer, and a developer Q&A session.
New gameplay from the massive update
- This second teaser trailer for “Plains of Eidolon” has been released:
- For those who want to dive deeper, you can check out dev livestream 98 for more information about the changes to focus and more gameplay from the new update.

The main information that Warframe fans can gather from all this is: Plains of Eidolon is still planned for Autumn 2017 and it should truly be as fans imagine it. An expansion that takes Warframe a significant step forward.
