Fans have been waiting for a remake of Warcraft 3 and Diablo 2 for a long time – will the announcement come at BlizzCon?
Nostalgia is sometimes a fine thing. And who doesn’t dreamily think back to the great games from their childhood that they would love to experience again with better graphics and a renovation? Especially with the old Blizzard games, the desire for a remake has been a topic for several years.
With StarCraft, they fulfilled this wish for the fans and released the game a few weeks ago in a new “StarCraft: Remastered” version. Old graphics were revised, and the number of pixels displayed was drastically increased, without changing the gameplay.
Matt Sherman from the StarCraft team announced a few days ago that there will also be a panel at BlizzCon featuring a large part of the “Classic Games” team.
The community then began to speculate wildly and hoped that finally a remake of Diablo 2 or Warcraft 3 would be announced. After all, both games are well embedded in the minds of gamers and have at least suffered a bit graphically over time.
No Classic Game announcements at BlizzCon 2017
But Matt Sherman quickly backtracked and stated that they “do not plan to make any major announcements at BlizzCon.” At least regarding the “Classic Games” team, there will be no new announcements.
Apparently, Blizzard wanted to temper expectations a bit here before too much hype builds up, which could ultimately result in disappointment.
So, it will likely take several more years before the dream of a remake of Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 becomes a reality.
Do you want to see a remake of Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3? Or are both games still “fresh enough” that it is not really necessary?
