The new Tactic RPG War of Crown offers turn-based battles like those of Ogre Battle or Final Fantasy Tactics. It has been released worldwide for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices.
It was the genre of earlier console generations and determined what was played in some of our childhood bedrooms: Tactic RPGs, strategy role-playing games.
On the Sega Mega Drive, there was Shining Force, and on the SNES games like Ogre Battle. One of the greatest games in the genre is still considered to be Final Fantasy Tactics – in modern times, games like Disgaea or the series “Fire Emblem” have caught attention.

Now, with “War of Crowns,” a current strategy RPG has been released for mobile devices. War of Crowns can be played worldwide on the go. There is also a version for Germany with German text and English voice acting.
In strategy RPGs, you control and develop a group of heroes like in an RPG. The battles, however, take place like in a strategy game. A sort of “chess for advanced players” – with sharp swords, magic, and elves.
In “War of Crown,” the heroes have different attacks and abilities.
In a rock-paper-scissors principle, they are particularly strong against certain elements. Elevation differences and placement on the battlefield also play an important role. A time limit ticks mercilessly. Therefore, it is not only important whom you attack a monster with but also from where, with which skill, and in which round.
War of Crown is set in a fantasy universe. The story is told in cut scenes. In menus, you can manage your heroes, equip them with items, and supply them.
We tested this with an iPad, and the controls work smoothly. The production values of Sword of Crown are high.
A meta is already forming
The game is relatively complex. A community has already formed around the game, discussing tier lists and the best setups and strongest heroes.
Heroes are already classified into “tiers,” and there are discussions about how the meta will likely change.

Game-breaker: Like most games of this kind on mobile, there is a pronounced cash shop – “War of Crowns” is free to play, but the cash shop tempts users with conveniences. “Pay2Win” is a sensitive topic in such games. Anyone involved with mobile free-to-play games should be aware of this.
A distinctive feature of War of Crown is a well-developed PvP system: battles take place in real-time and are synchronized against each other.
