Redfall is an upcoming cooperative shooter where you must fight for survival on a vampire-infested island. The new trailer takes a dark turn.
The trailer is themed “Into the Night” and appears even more eerie than previous Redfall trailers.
The players wander through dark rooms stained with blood, illuminated only by the lonely beam of their flashlight. We see an abandoned amusement park, which is always creepy. Ultimately, the trailer also shows the rest of the city of Redfall, shrouded in dark fog. And: plenty of vampires.
They represent the main enemies in Redfall, bringing not just sharp teeth and claws, but also special abilities like a kind of energy harpoon, psychic tricks, or search beams on their foreheads.
Overall, the entire trailer gives a rather horror-themed impression. However, that’s not all that Redfall is supposed to be when it launches.
What kind of game is Redfall, anyway?
This is Redfall: Redfall will be a cooperative shooter that you can play through with up to four players at the same time.
You find yourself on an island suffering from a severe vampire invasion – including a darkened sun and a stilled ocean, creating the perfect playground for the bloodsuckers.
However, not everything is grim; in the first presentation of Redfall, the game was rather light-hearted with jokes and humor.
In terms of gameplay, you can expect several interesting aspects:
- Redfall comes with an open world
- The entire game is playable with up to three friends, a total of four players
- There are four heroes with different abilities, ranging from invisibility to energy shields or robot companions
- You can continually improve these skills through upgrades
- Additionally, you can collect a lot of loot: The blog (via Bethesda.net) mentions weapon drops with random perks, leading to countless combinations. It somewhat resembles the Borderlands principle.
- The environment is also supposed to be integrated into storytelling, the NPCs are supposed to fight against each other.
Besides just shooting, the developers say you can also engage in some clever thinking if you want. Stealth approaches are also conceivable, particularly when you’re out alone. You can approach tactically rather than just shooting away – for example, by pitting hostile NPCs against each other.
When is Redfall coming out? Redfall was originally slated for 2022 but has been postponed to the first half of 2023. There is not yet a specific date.
Things look a bit more concrete with the platforms: Redfall will be released for Xbox Series X|S and PC and is expected to be included in Game Pass from day one. The PlayStation, however, looks to be left out for the time being.
