Valve has just introduced new hardware for Steam that is set to hit the market in spring 2026. Included is a new Steam PC, a new controller, and a headset. You can read more about it directly with us.
This Steam hardware is coming in 2026:
- New Steam Controller: An ergonomic controller with magnetic thumbsticks, trackpads, and extra features.
- Steam Machine: Valve promises a powerful PC that is fast and, most importantly, compact enough to fit under any desk. The device, like the Steam Deck, runs on SteamOS.
- Steam Frame: A VR headset that is said to be wireless and lightweight, supporting all Steam games. The device also runs on SteamOS.
What is still unknown?
- Release date: Valve has not yet announced a specific release date but has stated that the devices are expected to launch in spring 2026.
- Price: It is also unknown how much the individual devices will cost. The current VR set from Valve costs around 1,000 Euros, while the Steam Deck OLED with 512 GB retails for nearly 600 Euros.
- Availability: At the release of the Steam Deck, availability was a huge issue. It is unknown whether the devices will be available at launch.
Several major magazines, including the English-language magazine TheVerge (potentially paywall), which has already had the chance to test the device, are reporting on the announcement.
Steam Machine: A mini-PC that could become a real alternative for many gamers
With the Steam Machine, Valve is attempting once again to sell a computer with Steam OS. The last attempt failed partly due to the complex market situation: Valve had left production to third-party companies like Alienware, which then manufactured the devices. At that time, Steam OS and Linux were also not nearly as developed for gaming as they are today. This time, Valve will likely handle the production of the PCs itself.
Specifications of the Steam Machine:
- CPU: custom AMD Zen 4 6C / 12T, with up to 4.8 GHz, 30 W TDP
- GPU: custom AMD RDNA3 28 CUs, with a maximum of 2.45 GHz, 110 W TDP, supports 4K gaming at 60 FPS, FSR, and Ray tracing support
- RAM: 16 GB DDR5
- Storage: 512 GB or 2 TB. A slot for an SD card is also available
Valve promises that the Steam Machine will be up to 6 times more powerful than the current Steam Deck. Whether that is true will have to be seen in the first tests.
