A user is happy about his latest trade. He swaps his hardware component for another one. However, the joy does not last long when he sees the current prices of the parts.
What kind of trade is it? The user Abdul Kareem As reported on his Facebook post from December 4, 2025, about his trading experience. He swapped RAM for an RTX 5070 Ti.
The RAM in question is a DDR5 Corsair Vengeance kit with 192 gigabytes and a clock speed of 5200 megahertz. The kit is divided into four RAM sticks, each with 48 gigabytes per stick. The graphics card is a PNY RTX 5070 Ti OC with 16 gigabytes of video memory.
The post reveals that the trade took place on Facebook Marketplace and both parties agreed before completing the swap.
Whether current RAM prices will also affect the upcoming Steam Machine remains to be seen. In the meantime, you can see what’s inside the little console PC in the following trailer:
Soaring RAM Prices Were the Downfall of the User
Why was the deal bad? Due to the sharply rising prices of RAM, 192-gigabyte DDR5 RAM is currently worth much more than an RTX 5070 Ti. As a result, the user made a loss without realizing it at first.
According to the comments on the Facebook posts, an RTX 5070 Ti is worth about 750 US dollars and at the current prices, you can’t even get a RAM kit with 128 GB for that. The RAM is worth much more than 750 US dollars. (via Facebook)
At the US retailer Newegg, a comparable RAM kit costs 1,999 US dollars (via Newegg). An “RTX 5070 Ti OC” variant is sold for 750 US dollars (via Newegg). In this particular example, the user would lose around 1,200 US dollars, although this can fluctuate significantly depending on the offers.
Comparison Sites Can Provide Orientation Values
How can I find out the value of my parts? There are several ways to find out the price of your hardware:
- Use comparison sites like Geizhals in Germany or GeizR for a Europe-wide search. The site compares hundreds of different dealers and used markets and lists them for you. The price history feature is also useful, where you can see how the price of a specific product has developed. However, be cautious of additional costs for shipping when making EU purchases.
- Compare prices yourself on the Internet. If you want to buy or sell hardware, it is often worthwhile to check sales sites like eBay or comparison sites for the current market price beforehand. This gives you a feel for the current value and allows you to better assess the buying/selling price.
Finally, we recommend that if possible, always sleep on larger deals and investments. Spontaneous decisions often lead to worse results and frustration.
